Boo, neighbor
By Ben | September 26, 2007
This morning I walked Fairbanks around the block. I noticed this scraggly little gray/black dog following us, and after a couple minutes it became clear that he wasn’t going home. So I walked with him back to his owner, who exclaimed “Bugsy!” and thanked me.
As I walked back home, a woman opened her window that faced the sidewalk and demanded of me, “Is there any reason you’re walking back and forth on the sidewalk?” I explained to her that I was taking a man’s dog back to him, and she still seemed unsatisfied. “Yeah, well I was wondering,” she said.
Oh, I’m sorry, lady! Did I fail to acquire the proper permit to walk my dog on the sidewalk in front of your house! Heavens to Betsy! Earth to Meekus!
I know this is an isolated incident, but it’s odd to me that someone would go out of their way to have a negative interaction with a neighbor in front of their house.
Johanna said I probably looked scary with my scruffy hair and “A-1 Grandpa” trucker hat. Also the lady was pregnant, so maybe her hormones contributed.
Anyway, to her, and the type of Long Beach resident that she now represents in my mind, I still give a hearty “Boo.”
